Regional Environmental Council
Founded in 1971 as a volunteer-led environmental justice organization, today the Regional Environmental Council (REC) has three core programs – Community Farmers Markets, Youth Grow, and UGROW – all centered on food justice and healthy food access. REC developed their mobile market model to help meet residents’ demand for healthy food.
REC’s Community Farmers Markets connect residents of Worcester’s lowest income, most food-insecure neighborhoods with affordable, healthy foods, including fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and other value-added products.
