Based in Lowell, MA, Mill City Grows strives to achieve food justice by improving physical health, economic independence, and environmental sustainability in the Lowell area by providing a wide selection locally grown foods, nutrition education, and access to land. Mill City Grows has transformed empty lots into thriving food production sites, which now provide nourishing food to thousands of families and engage community members of all ages and backgrounds in Lowell’s local food system. Their mobile market aids residents who are unable to afford local grocery store prices.

Fast Facts:

  • Mill City Grows manages an urban farm that produces 40 tons of food annually

  • 6,681 Lowell public school students were given access to garden beds

  • 3,000 students participated in Mill City’s farm to school programming
